My family loved this. I only used one-half of onion, added 1 tsp of basis mustard, used one cup one-half/half - one loving cup milk. Used 1/2 loving cup panko bread crumbs mixed with melted butter for the topping. Adding the Kielbasa makes this very filling, added a salad and that was dinner. Only iii of us and had enough leftovers for the next nighttime. Will be making once again. Cheers

I followed this recipe to a T. All the same I had mixed reviews from everyone at the table. Husband liked it, my kids were harder to please on this dish...but the one thing they agreed on was they didn't intendance for the breadstuff crumbs. Maybe utilise a lot less and then a whole loving cup. And mayhap Panko bread crumbs. The breadstuff crumbs could accept soaked upward likewise much of the creamyness to this dish. ane/2 cup or less probably would take been fine. And the kids didn't care for the kielbosa in it either...which I institute to exist strange because they love kielbosa. I thought information technology had a nice flavour overall, but agreed to much bread crumbs. If the kielbosa would accept been left out I experience they would have enjoyed information technology meliorate. One child, who will eat almost annihilation, said it tasted funny and doesn't want me to make it once again...Hubby wants it once more. So this review on rating it has been very difficult. I will say I'll attempt information technology again, with some unlike modifications, to see if it suits anybody.

I tend to make this a bit differently from my sis... actress cheese, less onion, and crushed crackers instead of breadcrumbs. But it's a great base recipe!
10/05/2009
My family loved this. I've made it twice. My changes/suggestions would be to make sure you lot melt the onion long enough so its not too strong. I even employ function whole wheat flour function unbleached. I also used 1/2 the breadcrumbs and substituted panko bread crumbs and parmesan cheese.
04/xiii/2009
My whole family unit liked this one but I recollect I would apply about 1/2 the onion next fourth dimension rather than the whole matter. As well i shredded the cheese rather than cubing it because I discover that it melts into the roux easier and more smoothly.
04/10/2009
I used a package of little smokies instead of kielbasa. As well added some cheeze whiz and shredded cheddar cheese, istead of the cubed to the rest of ingredients. Forget the bread crumbs A dash of lea and perrins, soy sauce, a few chopped dark-green onions, mushrooms...optinal...the more than cheese the amend....this was great
04/02/2009
Wonderful! I am very picky about my Mac 'n cheese and this was dandy! My kids panicked about the kielbasa at first, but they liked it in one case they tasted it! I did apply a blend of precipitous and mild cheddar cheeses to tame the season for us. The simply change I will make for next time is to apply about one/2 of the staff of life crumbs. They were way to thick for our taste.
04/29/2009
This was ok but wasn't very cheesy and I added extra cheese to it. Next time I volition add a cheese like velveeta to aid make information technology creamier and cheesier.
05/20/2010
I loved this recipie. I accept tried to make homemade mac and cheese before and information technology turned out clumpy. It may have been user fault, but for some reason, this one worked for me. The only affair I did unlike was I added a little bit of Mrs Dash Garlic and Herb seasoning later I had the cheese sauce all melted. Even the child that we phone call the pickatarian loved this. :)
04/08/2009
This was ok..I was expecting more than rich cheese season..Instead of cubed cheese, I would employ shredded..The cubes make the prep time style likewise long..Otherwise, it's simply ok.
11/23/2010
I made a similar recipe. Left out the onion, used a dab of onion seasoning. Replaced kielbasa sausage with Sweetness Italian Chicken Sausage. Cooked in pan with a niggling scrap of one/8 cup ruddy vino vinagarette, top full of worsteshiere sauce, and 1 Tbsp ketchup. Mix bread crumbs with butter and water for 1 minute before spreading over tiptop layer of dish and baking. Mix sharp cheddar with mozzerela for a stringy, soft cheese mixture. Rave reviews all around the table.
12/eighteen/2010
Really practiced base of operations recipe! I e'er brand mac and cheese with peas and needed a good cheese sauce to use. This 1 was great. We left out the sausage and added peas. Really yummy!
01/10/2011
Very good one time we scraped off excess bread crumbs. We also added raw broccoli which cooked well in the oven. Next time I'll utilize a LOT less bread crumbs and cook in a dish deeper and narrower than 9x13 to give more of the flossy mac n cheese.
01/21/2013
In my opinion, it was terrible. This doesn't happen too often in my experiences at Allrecipes.com. I followed the recipe exactly and everything nearly information technology was incorrect, I wouldn't even call this mac and cheese. Just a cheap quick sauce with some cheddar thrown in, no flavor whatsoever. I even used existent sharp cheddar in block form that I shredded myself (the expensive kind.) Kielbasa deserves amend. Won't exist making again
11/twenty/2010
I used what I had available in the business firm but I veered very little from the recipe. I used penne pasta and instead of keilbasa, I used Hillshire Farms mini turkey smokies cut in half. For the topping I used Italian panko breadcrumbs mixed with a piffling olive oil and parmesan cheese. Very tasty!

After a morning of wakeboarding, my college son and his friends demolished the pan. When I asked if it could have been any better, the reply was "only if you had made more." Only change, no meat - every bit none in the house, did half milk - half evap milk, added dry mustard to cheese sauce, and topped with sauteed green onions, tomatoes, and Italian breadcrumbs. Definately a keeper, may make for fifty college students Sunday nite.
05/22/2011
Did this without the kielbasa, just the macaroni office. Was quite surprised with how tasty it was, for beingness quite a simple recipe. I added some crumbled bacon on the summit with the bread crumbs, couldn't end eating it!
11/11/2010
I had a craving for dwelling made mac due north cheese and I just happened to have a parcel of kielbasa in the fridge. This was piece of cake to make and tasted wonderful!! The whole family unit loved information technology and it was even ameliorate as leftovers the next day.
ten/29/2010
It was not very cheesy and the onion taste was very strong.
12/22/2010
This was really good, only i concord with some of the other reviews when they said its not creamy enough. the cheese sauce is adept yes, only information technology needs heavy cream to brand it creamier. i will make it once more and add a lilliputian more cheese and heavy cream along with i cup of milk equally mentioned. My husband loved this to and does not like mac and cheese, well he never tried information technology homemade!
11/08/2010
I changed some things in mine to fit my Nana'south recipe. We use the process of double humid the cheese mixture and it turns out creamy and smooth but cooking on low oestrus in a pan did simply fine and had less cleanup. We use velveeta for the cheese, no onion and cook the kielbasa with the macaroni which adds flavour. Instead of using bread crumbs we employ crushed crackers and mix information technology with melted butter. This recipe is the closest one I've constitute to my Nana'southward. She goes by eye and skill which I lack. So putting numbers and quantities to the ingredients really helped me out!
02/22/2011
Huge hit! Doubled recipe. I used 8 Tbs butter, sauteed onions, added double flour and milk. Added 2/iii block of 3lb cheddar cheese cubed and iv oz velveta, stir till melted and the remainder being same. For topping I used almost 1/2 bag Pepridge Farms herb bread crumb stuffing mixed with i stick melted butter. Spread on top. Broiled 25 min at 350 and then permit it sit out of oven for 15 minutes. Fantabulous recipe. I never made homemade Mac and cheese before. ********************* OK, so I have fabricated this virtually 4 more times since above review. Each time I brand it anybody says it is fifty-fifty meliorate than last time. Once leftovers are gone (it makes more than four people can eat---two servings each--at once) by a day or two afterwards I am wondering if information technology'southward too soon to cook it again. It is crawly. This time I cooked mixture longer over higher heat, constantly stirring and I feel like information technology was even thicker. Haven't added kielbasa each fourth dimension considering I havent' had it on hand. LOVE this recipe. Over and out.
04/23/2011
I had a little trouble getting the flour/milk/butter mixture to thicken in the time stated on the recipe, merely it ended up working out. My merely real beefiness with this recipe was the dry bread crumbs on top. I retrieve they needed to be mixed with some kind of fatty - whether cheese or butter. Plain dry bread crumbs on top resulted in a dry and sandy texture on pinnacle rather than that crisis I was looking forwards to.
12/16/2010
This is admittedly delicious! I made for a holiday potluck and it was a striking.
12/31/2012
This turned out very skilful, later on reading the reviews I changed a few things based on input to my preference by using Turkey Kielbasa (which is merely baked with it vs pan warming it), diced an onion, broccoli, ground mustard, onion pulverisation, garlic powder, ground pepper and nigh 4 oz of Velveeta, along with a package of grated sharp cheddar, and when making the sauce I also used 1 can of evap milk and the balance 2% milk. The Topping was 1/2 loving cup Italian bread crumbs and the cooking time was perfect.
12/25/2010
Wonderful! My son asked for mac and cheese for our Christmas dinner. I wanted to do something special then I though we would try this. I did delete the onions every bit some mentioned since he hates onions. I also just used enough bread crumbs to cover the pinnacle of the casserole - probably less than a 1/4 cup. Definitely will make again!
12/thirteen/2010
Excelent, One of the all-time Broiled Mac & Cheese dishes i have e'er tried.
x/17/2010
This is succulent! I added chopped red pepper and fresh rosemary from my garden to the onions that I cooked in the butter. I used white american cheese instead of cheddar cheese because of preference. I besides used crushed butter flavored crackers for the top. Again for preference. My daughter helped me make this too. Cracking recipe. I plan on making it again. Thanks.
07/24/2012
This was good...I used weiners instead and my 2 i/ii yr old granddaughter loved it...This is a keeper..
01/06/2011
I institute this recipe very banal. When I reheated it, I added a bit more cheese...so at least it was cheesier. My ii year quondam loved it....but it definitely could have used more punch.
01/09/2011
Over all this was a pretty solid recipe. Fabricated some adjustments (more cheese) and came out pretty good!
06/05/2011
Pretty expert. I liked it, family said OK
10/31/2010
Yum! I used about i/4 of an onion, added 1 tsp. mustard powder to the cheese sauce, and did half & half bread crumbs/panko breading (about 3/4 loving cup total). I have never made homemade mac & cheese before, and I have to say, this i was pretty piece of cake. It came out perfect, very tasty.... I really like the kielbasa flavor also. Just reheated another portion in the microwave and it's but equally good as it was right out of the oven, no texture issues at all. MMMMMM!
08/08/2012
YUM! this was amazing. i altered it a flake but the sauce was such a slap-up base!
04/14/2012
Very delicious
01/20/2011
This was so skilful! I used chicken sausage that I had on hand and used half 2% milk and half evaporated milk. It was very yummy!
09/xix/2010
I've wanted to attempt making bootleg macaroni and cheese for a while now, but for most recipes, I'd take to spend an arm and a leg only on cheese! Non so with this recipe! When I saw that it included kielbasa sausage, I had to try it. It was fantastic! I left out the onions considering I don't like them and I used besides much of the bread crumbs for the pan I was using (my fault) as it was a deep casserole dish instead of a 9 x xiii pan. The layer was likewise thick on the tiptop for me, but I'll know better next time! Also, I only used two/3 c. of breadstuff crumbs, then 1/3 c. of parmesan cheese considering of other reviews I'd read. This was cheesy and delicious! I printed out the recipe and will exist making over again...and again...and again! The only proposition I have is to make the cheese mix, keep it on very low heat, and and then make the macaroni. My macaroni was done manner before the sauce, and I had to add butter to it so it wouldn't stick together.
02/21/2011
Information technology was good but i made the bechemel sauce by itself and carmelized the onions. Cutting down on the cheddar cheese and added some gouda. And then topped with the breadstuff crumbs and french's crispy onions
06/04/2010
This turned out great and was easy to make. I dint add together the sausage, only wanted the mac north cheese recipe. I as well cut downwards on the breadstuff craumbs and will utilize Panko next fourth dimension (1/iii cup) and I used the Kraft cheese blend fabricated for melting (pre shredded) plus I added shredded Parm. & 1/2 tsp dry out mustard. Shredded is easier to use than cubed.
02/02/2010
I made this last nighttime and it was ok, edible, but nothing to go crazy over. I didn't have diced cheese and so I used ii cups shredded cheese-otherwise, followed exact recipe. I used the pocket-sized onion and it seemed a bit overpowering--and I like onion flavor. Aside from the onion flavor, I felt it was a fleck bland. I did non add extra salt, just salted the h2o for pasta as some sausages/kielbasa'south are a fleck salty to begin with. I should have listened to others and not used the onion. I might attempt this again, only not going to make it a staple meal in our abode.
08/07/2012
I'm giving this a 5 to be fair since I changed information technology right from the first time. I was in need of just a macaroni and cheese recipe (without the meat) and this I idea this 1 would be only equally practiced even without the meat! Anyways, my changes are that I never do put it in the oven. We swallow it straight from the stove top, just like boxed mac and cheese. I do not apply the onion because my kids and I wouldn't consume it that fashion. I Exercise use onion powder though. I just don't want any other textures in my mac and cheese and either do the kids. I also add 1 ane/4 tsp footing mustard. This is an awesome recipe and I'thou sorry I tweaked it right from the go-go. I really KNOW it would be fabulous with the kielbasa and I practice want to effort that some time.
02/13/2011
Delish! I am Italian and consider myself a pretty good melt - but my grandmother's recipe takes forever. This recipe saved the mean solar day. I made a huge dish for my New Years political party - I also added some shredded Asiago cheese into it and a fiddling Swiss. Fabulous!
08/17/2010
One of the best mac and cheeses I've ever made! Autonomously from using a niggling more cheese, and likewise adding some hot English language mustard to the cheese sauce, I pretty much fabricated it as written. Very rich and tasty. Thanks!
08/21/2011
super adept! Following several of the reviewers suggestions, I only used near 1/2 an onion, I warmed the milk before adding information technology to the roux and I added virtually 3 oz. of Velveeta. Husband says it is great!
10/ten/2012
Yum! I didn't add the breadstuff crumbs to the pinnacle because I already know that my kids won't swallow information technology that way. I besides only added one-half of an onion, minced really well. This was a skillful basic mac and cheese recipe.
10/11/2010
OMG - sooooo good! I used evaporated milk to get in creamier and threw in some cubed ham - will probably decrease the onion next time, as information technology was a scrap too much for the states.
10/02/2010
I made this recipe for my friends. They both loved it, only I would make a few changes if I made it again. The cheese wasn't as rich and creamy as I had hoped. I used almost 1/iii onion instead of a whole one and I don't treat bread crumbs and then I left them out of the recipe and just used actress cheese on top to cook. Overall ok, but on the bland side. Thanks!
10/04/2010
Really good! I followed another review and used salary instead of the sausage. I used shredded cheese instead of the cubed cheese. It had a slightly grainy texture after information technology sat in the pan for awhile...but the next day for leftovers, I mixed information technology with a little milk and it perked correct dorsum upwardly! I volition definitely use this recipe once again.
03/28/2012
This is my go-to recipe for broiled mac and cheese. I make information technology plainly sometimes, and other times I add smoked sausage (that's what'due south in the oven right now). I use a combo of cheeses, too. Colby jack and cheddar is expert. I did use a whole box of macaroni (this 1 was a fiddling over xiv oz).
09/18/2011
Very tasty. I did use crushed nacho cheese Doritos instead of bread crumbs, this adds a new dimension of flavor!
03/27/2013
Anybody in the business firm liked this recipe. I'll probably change ii things about it adjacent time I brand it. Perhaps add some more milk because it was a little thick and leave out the breadstuff crumbs because I didn't actually care for them. Otherwise the recipe is a keeper!
03/26/2012
I douubled all the ingredients, and used 2 8 oz. bags of shredded Cheddar cheese, instead of cubed. VERY tasty! Kielbasa and mac 'n cheese go very well together. Doubling the recipe filled up my nine ten 13 lasagna dish, and I had enough of leftovers (which, by the manner, tasted smashing both hot AND cold the next day). And, don't skimp on the Panko breadcrumbs! Sprinkle them on heavily, and bake until they turn a dark aureate brown. They add alot to this dish!
10/23/2009
I fabricated this recipe with my 6 and 9 year old grandchildren. We all loved the recipe. The simply the we did differently was mix Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs together and sprinkled on before baking. I felt too much breadcrumbs would weigh down the meal.
05/04/2010
Nosotros liked this quite a lot. I made a few changes, cooking the onion with ii cloves of garlic and adding 2 teas of mustard powder and a Tb dried chives (and freshly footing pepper) to the cheese mix while cooking. I also used a small bundle of gouda along with the cheddar. I as well mixed three/four cup crushed Ritz crackers with 1-two Tb butter and some more dried chives and sprinkled the elevation with this before baking.
12/04/2011
Skilful base recipe. Used leftover rotisserie chicken in place of sausage and added broccoli. Per other reviewers added some garlic. Used crushed upwardly Ritz crackers on tiptop in place of bread crumbs. Could take used a bit more sauce/liquid (will exercise that adjacent time). My 2 yr erstwhile loved it!
01/31/2012
This has go a favorite dish for u.s.a..
08/03/2012
This recipe was tasty and perfect for a mac and cheese craving from a very anti "cheese pulverization" or "cheese food" cook. I omitted the sausage only because I am non a big meat eater and shredded the cheese from a fresh cake I picked upward at the farmers market. Likewise- I used whole wheat pasta and it was just as tasty equally the white stuff. One tip my husband gave me was to warm the milk before adding it to the butter/flour and this seemed to assistance make information technology smoothen and easy to mix. I didn't measure the breadcrumbs, but eyeballed what looked to be a good amount for my sense of taste beyond the top and that worked perfectly. Craving kicked!
11/11/2009
This recipe is the ultimate comfort food. Loved it! I have made information technology with and without cubed Black Woods ham and it is wonderful. I am going to endeavor information technology with leftover turkey later Thanksgiving too :) The only change I would make for my family is to brand a larger casserole!
12/29/2010
Nifty but not creamy enough for my husband's sense of taste.
eleven/19/2011
O.K.
10/23/2012
This recipe was simply okay. I followed it to the T, except for adding chicken kielbasa rather, than pork I tried it again. Cut the onion downwards to a 1/4th. I beloved onion but the original had way too much. Added a little cayenne pepper, and mixed upwards the cheeses a fiddling flake. 1/3 chedder, 1/3 fresh parmesan, and 1/three swiss. I also left out the kielbasa, entirely. This was VERY good!
04/01/2011
Yum! I added an egg while I mixed in the cheese to give information technology an egg-y flavor. I thought it was going to be a disaster, considering my roux looked awful, but everything turned out yummy. Definitely will be making again!
01/28/2014
This was super yummy just hither are a few things I did differently. I am a mom, work and go to school, so speed is the name of the game. While some things I exercise believe demand to accept fourth dimension, I recollect some processes hither can exist sped upwardly. So 1. I made sure to utilise the smallest onion I had after reading reviews. 2. I cooked my pasta al dente then it wouldn't need 20 minute broil fourth dimension @350. 3. After incorporating over depression heat, I brought temp up to a med-med loftier and added the pasta/kielbasa mix, salt and brindled, got up to hot temp. And finally iv. I topped with bread crumbs (I did not mensurate, I just dusted as there were complaints of the bread crumbs soaking upwards too much of the sauce) and so broiled information technology until brown and crispy. I think the bake part is a vastly underused feature. Viola. We all loved it, hubby was mad there wasn't more left when he got home from work :)
12/19/2011
Practiced stuff! Thanks for the recipe! A couple reviews said it could be cheesier, so I used 12 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese, but really information technology was more than because I didn't desire to store 2 oz of cheese. It was enough cheesy.
12/18/2012
This is delicious!! I've made this several times now and took it to a dejeuner where the women all raved about it and went for seconds (something I've never seen them do!) I will acknowledge I was a bit leary of actually putting in the kielbasa, but at present that I've tried it my husband won't have information technology whatever other way. I use the regular polka kielbasa, and I too use half an onion, and 2 bags of shredded cheese----1 is sharp and one mild. My family prefers it west/out the bread crumbs. This dish is a keeper! It's a part of my normal rotation now...and this comes from someone who always hated homeade mac n cheese.
07/03/2012
I love this! I have made it twice now and it's then succulent every time. Only make sure yous work in the flour good, considering once I think I didn't integrate it well enough and the cheese mixture tasted but a fleck "floury". Oh... and information technology takes a bit of time! More than than 20 minutes for me at least. But worth it!
02/22/2011
This is the outset time that I accept really made dwelling house made macaroni instead of the typical mac and cheese out of the box. I absolutely loved it. I used fiddling smokey sausages and added extra cheese my son loved it. Thank you.
06/15/2009
Very good recipe but I did non add together the onions. Otherwise I would non change information technology at all.
01/30/2011
Excellent dish, simple and delicious. I skipped the kielbasa, and based on other reviews I also cutting on the bread crumbs a bit. I institute the sauce to be creamy and cheesy (no heavy cream needed, to others that found the sauce not to exist creamy enough perhaps the flour/milk/butter/onion mixture was undercooked). I just fabricated this a second time and information technology turned just as perfect as earlier!
06/02/2010
I really enjoyed this recipe. Instead of using onion i chopped up some fresh garlic. Also I used some Italian seasoning and some chili powder after I mixed in the cheese. I am glad I did otherwise it would have been a little bland. Overall information technology is a not bad recipe and is quite piece of cake to make!
03/31/2012
This was a very tasty, hearty repast.
01/thirty/2011
I made this just like another veiwer suggested. Iadded ham mustard and crackers. Thanks.
04/12/2010
Used 10 oz. of precipitous cheddar and 8 oz. of velveeta, 1/4 red onion. awesome
02/20/2011
Very yummy...I altered it so could but give 4 stars but an first-class base recipe. We like our mac & chs very saucey and so I doubled the sauce & addded 2 tsp dry mustard & 2 cups chopped ham.
02/eleven/2012
This was OK, but I found it to exist kind of oily, probably from the sausage and also the cake of cheese. Also, if I brand this again one alter I will make is to use onion powder rather than chopped onion. I found the texture to interfere with the creaminess that I want in mac & cheese.
01/22/2012
Great recipe
03/04/2012
Very well received at the political party I made it for. Did brand a few changes—used bacon instead of kielbasa, rotini instead of elbow macaroni, and prob only about one/3 as much staff of life crumbs. The bacon turned out really well and the rotini held a lot of sauce. Yum.
09/23/2013
I fabricated this recipe, simply with turkey kielbasa and fat gratuitous cheese, added a teaspoon of dry mustard. I feel like the kielbasa over powers it a bit, perchance dice the kielbasa instead, side by side time. Also it was a decent flavor, but something was missing. I'k not quite sure what.
09/15/2014
Changes I made were: substituting cooked cubed ham, added a dash of worsteshire and a pinch of nutmeg, a splash of mustard and sprinkled with pocket-sized corporeality of Panko crumbs. Great recipe base of operations from which yous can practice what you desire with. Served with a side of peas. My granddaughters, ages 5 and 7 had seconds and loved it!
04/thirteen/2011
Easy recipe, just has a strange sense of taste from the onions. The first fourth dimension I made this my family refused to eat it. I followed the recipe exactly except the kielbasa. Just made it for a 2d time and drastically reduced the onion and used extra sharp cheese shredded with a flake more chosen for from some leftovers in the fridge. MUCH better! (I also left the breadcrumbs off this time and would have used Ritz crackers if I had whatsoever)
05/eighteen/2011
Simply what I needed for supper this evening! We're huge cheese lovers, then I used about 16 oz of shredded cheddar & jack cheeses. Also, for the bread crumbs, I always brand my own by lightly toasting a few slices of bread and buttering them on both sides, before crumbling atop the macaroni. Some other users might want to try that, if they don't like the dry bread crumbs. Additionally, this can be made with whole wheat flour, instead of white flour, if desired. Nosotros tried it that way and it still tasted great.
12/29/2011
This was DELICIOUS! My nickname is likewise Cheese, so I just had to try this recipe when looking for the perfect homemade mac & cheese. I used hot dogs and didn't utilize a full pound because I didn't want to exist overwhelmed. It was the perfect ratio. I substituted panko for staff of life crumbs and didn't measure out it out, but sprinkled it over the tiptop with some parmesan cheese. Also, simply used 1/2 an onion and it was the perfect amount of flavour. I'thousand thinking of calculation a fiddling scrap of garlic and peas the next time. A cooking note - when I was whisking in the flour & milk, I had to plough the burner upwardly to at least medium considering my pan is actually thick aluminum and it was non getting up to a simmer. I tin't expect to brand this again! Cheers for sharing!
eleven/22/2011
A flake banal merely if you lot add a touch on of garlic information technology'due south nifty. Too since my wife won't consume keilbasa I added a pound of hamburger. Made for a good meal. Thank you!
xi/22/2014
My family LOVED information technology! Nevertheless, when I was making the cheese sauce, it didn't gustatory modality very cheesy to me (I LOVE cheese). I kept adding cheese and when it was done, I ended up using close to a pound of cheese! Oh, and I added four oz of cream cheese for creaminess! Yummy yummy! I volition be making this as my side at my husbands family Thanksgiving gathering.
06/29/2011
This is an excellent base recipe. I did not have kielbasa, and after reading the reviews, I was not sure if there would be enough cheese sauce for all of the items with the kielbasa. I fabricated the recipe more often than not as is, except I added iv bacon slices (diced) and a petty parsley. The macaroni was so cheesy, as in that location was enough of sauce minus the kielbasa. And, I did not add together a full cup of bread crumbs. I thought it would be likewise much. Instead, I added crumbs from 4 Ritz crackers. Great recipe. I may try the kielbasa in the futurity if I increase the cheese mixture likewise. ***I made it a 2d fourth dimension with kielbasa, and whoa!! What a difference, it was delicious. I increased the sauce by l% to make sure that at that place would exist plenty of sauce with the sausage. It was perfect.
10/24/2010
awesome. great flavour and the kielbasa gives it a smokey sense of taste. used shredded cheddar cheese. very easy.
02/28/2012
I accept to give this 4 stars because I made several improvements to brand this plow out 5 star-fantastic! Starting time, i oz of elbows per person simply wasn't going to cutting it. Equally a rule, I utilise 2 oz per pasta per person for main dishes. I used shallot instead of onion, used less butter because my kielbasa cooked out quite a bit of grease, and fabricated several additions along with the cheese: I nigh doubled the cheese, which I grated, I used garlic salt for the salt, white pepper for the pepper, added a squirt of Dijon mustard and merely a trivial extra milk since it got thick with the actress cheese. I did use the full corporeality of bread crumbs, but I mixed them with a niggling melted butter showtime and it came out just great. The end result was very good. Married man gave information technology 5 stars, noting the smokyness of the kielbasa compliments the tang of the sharp cheddar well! I won't be making this all the time (I love meatless Yard&C mode too much), but side by side time I have some kielbasa to apply up I will surely consider this recipe once more!!! Thanks glittergirl and Auntie Cheese!

I fabricated this for dinner tonight but had a few changes. I cut downward the butter a bit..seemed like a lot of butter. Also, added fresh minced garlic with the onions. Then, added dry mustard with the due south and p. I did not have sausage and so substituted bacon and had abrupt cheddar, fontina and Jack cheese on hand so used them all. Made my own bread crumbs but did not use a cup, I think a loving cup would have been way to much.

I wanted to make this with the kielbasa, only a day before I was going to arrive my two yr old said she didn't like hotdogs mixed into her mac n cheese so I made it sans kielbasa. It was super yummy! All my family raved near information technology. I did brand some alterations, I was going to double the recipe but forgot to double the cheese sauce and was running out of time so I just added virtually 2 cups plain shredded cheese, which definitely made it greasy but it was still good. Adjacent time I will make it with more than cheese sauce if I double. My 9 yr old thought it was really practiced before I added the extra shredded cheese before baking when she tasted it. I thought the onion gave it a nice almost smokey flavor. I skipped the bread crumbs b/c my 2 twelvemonth quondam is a mac n cheese purist. Very solid recipe.

I've made this recipe half a dozen times at present. I like to substitute half a cup of sour foam for half a loving cup of the milk, add tomato slices and broccoli, and I've used Canadian bacon, crispy cooked salary and bulk Italian sausage crumbles instead of the sausage chosen for. And I grate the cheese instead of cubing it. It e'er turns out fantastic. This is the only baked mac and cheese I've made that spooned out of the dish with gooey, creamy sauce instead of being custardy. The texture is nifty. Information technology reheats wonderfully, which is often a big hurdle for bootleg mac and cheese. I only gave it four stars instead of v because information technology tends to need extra salt or seasonings in the cheese sauce, and because, cubed cheese? what? that'due south just foreign. I don't know how anybody can say it's not cheesy, it has a ridiculous amount of cheese in information technology and a lot of cheese flavor. Mayhap the outcome is a low quality cheese?

I have to give this recipe the max rating because information technology has allowed me to create my own version, and go to recipe for mac north' cheese. I used shells instead of elbow macaroni. I also did not add onion, and put a footling more than diverseness in for cheese. Broccoli added is amazing! I just used raw and added into the mix when it was ready for the oven. Staff of life crumbs sprinkled on height similar suggested, gave it a texture. A

This was an amazing dish! My sister in constabulary and I made it for an impromptu dinner party. We made it with Chicken sausage instead of kielbasa and sweet onion instead of a normal one and it was delicious! We also added a package of the powdered cheese from the boxed mac and cheese in addition to the normal cheese! It was wonderful and filling. We fed 4 men and ourselves with a little fleck leftover. My fiance loves cheese and he was raving about it. Definitively going to brand this again.

I ADORE this recipe! It is and then yummy and easy. I used 10 oz of Cabot Extra Sharp NY Cheddar b/c I'm lactose intolerant and I did non add any salt but I did put fresh grated black pepper. I will definitely brand this again, adjacent time I will try with some chipotle peppers/sauce. THANK YOU
